Active Release Technique (ART)

Active Release Techniques (ART) treatment is a hands-on touch and case-management system that allows a practitioner to diagnose and treat soft-tissue injuries. Soft tissue refers primarily to muscle, tendon, fascia, and nerves. Specific injuries that apply are repetitive strains, adhesions, tissue hypoxia and joint dysfunction. ART utilizes specific contacts over injured tissue, then the soft tissue is lengthened in a certain manner resulting in improved tissue tension, texture, movement and function. This technique is effective in both acute conditions and chronic conditions that are subject to the cumulative injury cycle. This cycle results in a decreased oxygenation of the tissue, which causes an increased production of scar tissue and adhesion and fibrosis of the tissue, resulting in weak and tight musculature. ART breaks this cycle to restore soft tissue resiliency.
